The Ten Commandments

fatalistichues:

tobia:

figuremeout:laurakelly00:youmaybeoffended:

1. DO NOT ASSUME: seek clarification before forming an opinion/argument

2. CONTROL YOUR TEMPER: give yourself one hour to cool down after any and all altercations. NO case is a special case

3. DO NOT SHUT DOWN: after cool down time, talk truthfully and rationally

4. STOP being RESENTFUL, JEALOUS, and COMPETITIVE TO A FAULT

5. DO NOT STRESS the SOCIAL STRATA: that includes trying to figure everybody out

6. SHUT UP, YOU IDIOT: think thrice before you say anything, to anyone

7. DO NOT COMPARE YOUR BODY: your body is your own, judged by its own standards, and in the meantime, boost your confidence - make yourself feel pretty

8. MANAGE YOUR TIME: NO MORE last minute preparations for school assignments, piano performances, deadlines in general

9. CULTIVATE YOURSELF: read more, learn more, talk more, live more

10. Above all, remember: BE YOU. EMBRACE YOU. It is the only way to DISCOVER YOU.

Here you are, preaching all these stuff, and then you ruin it all by contradicting them with the command for me to be myself.

It’s better greeting ‘Good Morning!’ to your non-responsive friends; at least, the lack of reply gives the clearest message.

REPLY: does it have the same meaning as ‘You will love any person if you just spend some time with them’ ?

I know, I am not cool/interesting enough. Stop rubbing it on.

surprised to hear that im still credited for the stalker present idea. i know; mine is a very stalkish mind.

At least I wasn’t the one who executed it, nor messengered it.

I once had an idea

A big one at that.

You see, there was a boy (The Criminal) who was mad about a certain girl (The Fool) that he made a GiftArt of her favorite movie character, all gracefully but comically done in ink and watercolor. He gave it to her anonymously like a stalker in Valentines, slipping it through the door of her classroom. Don’t ask me if the girl knew of his identity; I don’t know. But, I don’t think so.

Anyway, this boy became the girl’s friend all the while keeping the secret identity of the stalker. Now, Valentines for the next year was approaching. That’s where I come in.

I (The Joker) have thought of something, a wild scheme. What if, with the presence of the Criminal and other selected audience, The Joker would propose to The Fool that he was The Criminal and that it was he who made the Stalker GiftArt? The idea was quite receptive to the Criminal and a few. It would go like this:

“Fool, there’s something I have to tell you,” says the Joker.
“What is it?” asked the Fool.
“Well…” the Joker stopped.
“It’s ok. Tell her,” saved the Criminal.
“Fool, it’s been a year, already—and i need to tell you—since that day I did it,
I knew someday I have to tell,” the Joker paused for a breather.
“I’m the one who gave you the Pirate.”

Merriment would have been had.

As Valentines Day was just around the corner, The Joker and The Criminal had a disagreement of a totally different matter making The Joker reevaluate his friendship with him.

Valentines week came and The Joker offered two options for The Criminal to make up. None were chosen, and so he decided to terminate it completely.

Of course, the day had passed and so did many others, and still, contacts were avoided. But deep in The Joker’s heart, he wishes that someday, his grand scheme would take fruition.

Until one day, The Criminal, out of many occasions, tries to, once again, come to an agreement with The Joker. Needless to say, they finally do. And with that, The Joker has only discovered that his grand scheme long went to the file shredder, an ad pitch never to be executed as an actual campaign.

This made The Joker sad.

The Criminal said he had to tell her, for you see, he found another.

There is nothing left to do but move forward.
I never was the part.

And with that, ends the chapter
of The Criminal, The Fool, and The Joker

What You Don't Know Makes You Nervous → happydays.blogs.nytimes.com

jingc:

People feel worse when something bad might occur than when something bad will occur. Most of us aren’t losing sleep and sucking down Marlboros because the Dow is going to fall another thousand points, but because we don’t know whether it will fall or not — and human beings find uncertainty more painful than the things they’re uncertain about.

Why would we prefer to know the worst than to suspect it? Because when we get bad news we weep for a while, and then get busy making the best of it. We change our behavior, we change our attitudes. We raise our consciousness and lower our standards. We find our bootstraps and tug. But we can’t come to terms with circumstances whose terms we don’t yet know. An uncertain future leaves us stranded in an unhappy present with nothing to do but wait.

So true. I’ve always been a fan of Dan Gilbert’s work, and this article is no exception.
